About Devil's Lair

Beginnings

The first vines were planted in 1982, on a ridge, in poor gravelly soils, with bad drainage. Not surprisingly, they failed. In fact, it wasn't until the fourth planting in 1985 that the vines finally took. And in 1990, after a lot of hard work, Devil's Lair eventually released its first vintage. The wines were met with immediate acclaim, acknowledged as among the finest in the region. Renowned Australia-wide for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, Devil's Lair also produces small parcels of Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz, Semillon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

17km south of the Margaret River (not far from the cave), Devil's Lair is one of the coolest sites in the region. An array of flavours is driven along the palate by taut natural acidity, balanced alcohol and refined tannins. Handled properly, they age remarkably well.
